played on Wednesday, June 17, 2021Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (11-28)SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 4, SYRACUSE 2 (BOX)Syracuse had plenty of chances not to, but the tough loss dropped them to a woeful 11-28 on the year. They scattered nine hits throughout the loss, but only scraped two runs across, both of which coming off the bat of a Cheslor Cuthbert home run in the fourth, which cut the deficit to 3-2 at the time. Corey Oswalt had a rough start, giving up two in the first and one in the second, coming out after just 3.1 innings, surrendering six hits and three runs. The bullpen did an excellent job keeping the Mets close, as the trio of Stephen Nogosek, Marcel Renteria, and Tom Windle surrendering just one run over the rest of the game. On the plus side, Michael Conforto (0-4, left after six innings), Albert Almora Jr. (2-5), and Jeff McNeil (1-4) all came out of the game (seemingly) healthy https://www.nymgear.com/marcus-stroman-jersey, continuing their rehab assignments, inching closer to their return to Queens.REHAB ALERT: RF Michael Conforto: 0-4, 2 KRF Cesar Puello: 0-1, KREHAB ALERT: CF Albert Almora Jr.: 2-5, 2B, SB (1)REHAB ALERT: 2B Jeff McNeil: 1-4, 2 KDH Travis Blankenhorn: 2-4, R, 2B, K3B Orlando Calixte: 0-4LF Khalil Lee: 1-4, 2 K1B Cheslor Cuthbert: 2-4, R, HR (5), 2 RBIC David Rodriguez: 1-4, KSS Drew Jackson: 0-1, 3 BBRHP Corey Oswalt: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, HBP, L (1-1)RHP Stephen Nogosek: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 KRHP Marcel Renteria: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 KLHP Tom Windle: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HBPDouble-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-27)PORTLAND 4, BINGHAMTON 1 (BOX)Binghamton and Syracuse had very similar nights, with Binghamton stringing together plenty of hits, but only being able to scratch over a single run. The Rumble Ponies trailed throughout this one and did so from the very beginning, as Cole Gordon served up a solo shot to the second batter of the game. Gordon did an excellent job of settling down after that, surrendering just two more hits over six frames. The bullpen did not hold up its end of the bargain though, as Jared Robinson served up three runs on two homers in the eighth inning. The Rumble Ponies rallied a bit in the ninth, as Hayden Senger led off with a single, and Will Toffey walked to get him into scoring position. Wagner Lagrange struck out, and Luis Carpio walked to load the bases with one out. Quinn Brodey chased home their only run with a sacrifice fly, and a Carlos Cortes strike out put Binghamton in the loss column for the 27th time this season.CF Jake Mangum: 0-4C Nick Meyer: 0-4, KDH Hayden Senger: 2-4, R, 2 K1B Mark Vientos: 1-3, K1B Will Toffey: 0-0, BBRF Wagner Lagrange: 1-4, K2B Luis Carpio: 0-3, BB, 2 KLF Quinn Brodey: 1-3, RBI, K3B Yoel Romero: 2-3PH Carlos Cortes: 0-1, KSS Manny Rodriguez: 1-3RHP Cole Gordon: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R https://www.nymgear.com/tug-mcgraw-jersey, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 WP, HBP, L (0-1)RHP Jared Robinson: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 KRHP Joe Zanghi: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 KHigh-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (11-25)WILMINGTON 8, BROOKLYN 4 (BOX)Brooklyn and Wilmington held each other scoreless in the first two frames, though both teams threatened to score in each inning — the Cyclones, namely, on a Ronny Mauricio two-out triple in the first. Wilmington, however, broke it open in a big way starting in the third. Alec Kisena served up a lead off home run in that inning, and never really settled down from it. He walked the next batter, and a single and a two RBI double made it 3-0 before the Cyclones batted an eye. He did not fare any better in the next inning, as five Wilmington hits plated three runs, putting the Cyclones in a 6-0 hole. Kisena was simply not sharp tonight. To the Cyclones credit, they battled back. Cody Bohanek singled home Joe Genord and Blake Tiberi to cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth, and a two-run home run by Tiberi made it a 6-4 ballgame. The Cyclones could not complete the comeback, though, as Bryce Montes de Oca surrendered a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth innings, putting the game to bed,3B Cody Bohanek: 1-5, 2 RBI, 2 KCF Antoine Duplantis: 0-4, 3 KSS Ronny Mauricio: 3-4, 3B, KDH Brett Baty: 0-3, BB, 2 KC Francisco Alvarez: 2-4, R, 2 2B, K, E (3)2B Luke Ritter: 0-4, 4 K1B Joe Genord: 0-2, R, BB, KLF Blake Tiberi: 2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR (1), 2 RBI, KRF LT Struble: 1-4, 2B, KRHP Alec Kisena: 3.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, L (1-3)RHP Michel Otanez: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 WPRHP Bryce Montes de Oca: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 1 WPLow-A: St. Lucie Mets (21-18)ST. LUCIE 7, JUPITER 3 (BOX)The only win of the night for the Mets organization came in Jupiter, as the Mets topped the Hammerheads with relative ease. After a scoreless first two frames, both teams got on the board in the third. A Matt O’Neil walk, a Brandon McIlwain double, and a Ranfy Adon walk loaded the bases with none out. A fielder’s choice off the bat of Alex Ramirez and a Jose Peroza sac fly made it 2-0 Mets, though the inning could have been bigger. Junior Santos quickly gave those two runs back in the bottom of the frame, and they headed into the fourth tied at two. The Mets broke it open from there, though.Jimmy Tinus singled home a run in the fourth, making it 3-2 Mets. A double steal of second and home executed by Ranfy Adon and Matt O’Neil, respectively, made it 4-2 in the fifth. Peroza doubled Adon home to push the lead to 5-2. An error off the bat of McIlwain chased home two runs, making the lead 7-2 in the eighth. Luis Montas surrendered a run in the bottom of the frame, but that would be the only blemish for the pen in the win.
