Environment preservation is a collective effort to live in a world that is not eroding. Research conducted by experts shows that rainforests mostly cover about 6% of the earth's surface. However, the benefits gained from rainforests are immense, not just for the human population but for all living creatures. This is what makes it all the more essential to participate in rainforest protection.

Due to the gradual increase of factories and other commercial and residential properties, the unsustainable approach of eradicating rainforests and getting rid of forest cover has been on the rise. However, with global warming and worsening climate change, the situation is becoming dire. Here are a few crucial reasons that corroborate why it is important to take measures for rainforest protection.

  1. Leads to cleaner air

One of the most important reasons is that rainforests function as natural air filters. It is through photosynthesis that they filter out carbon and other harmful pollutants and release oxygen into the atmosphere. Our climate will be catastrophically impacted if rainforests do not deal with greenhouse gas emissions. Hence we must protect them.

  1. Gives us water

There is a term called evapotranspiration which supports the filtering of water that makes its way into our atmosphere. The process is simple where this water is then transported to clouds, which eventually flows into the water bodies from where we get our water. Thus environmental preservation becomes a focal point as it invariably affects the climate on the whole as well.

  1. Serves as a home to many

Rainforests are a safe haven for innumerable living species. It is home to about 80% of the biodiverse natural habitat that surrounds us. Not only animals but even a plethora of plants also find their home amidst this natural habitat. Not being more responsible towards our rainforests leads to a concerning possibility of losing many of the unique species that populate our planet. Not only that, but the possibility of finding newer ones is also close to hitting a point of scarcity, which is deeply saddening. This is their home, and losing it most often renders these living species homeless to the point of going extinct.

  1. Provides livelihood

It is no surprise to us that most of our livelihoods are sourced from the environment that surrounds us. All the more reason why we should comprehend the importance of environmental preservation. From food to water to medicine to even shelter - there are multiple needs of indigenous communities that are graciously fulfiled by our rainforests which make up a crucial part of our environment. Those who most likely might not be having a legal right to their land may end up losing it and the accompanying resources.

  1. For a better future

By now, we have understood that rapid deforestation and day-to-day negligence of our forests and other natural resources in the world have a very harsh impact on our environment. The current climate crisis that we are dealing with is most likely going to worsen because of this negligence. Therefore, it is paramount that we take the responsibility of being kinder towards our environment more seriously for a better future.

In Conclusion

There are plenty of platforms that have solely dedicated their attention towards protecting and bettering the environment. It is a great initiative and the need of the hour to be more generous and supportive of environmental preservation as our survival depends on how healthy our environment is.
