In the extreme excitement to have the baby with yourself often women ignore their own health in the postpartum period. For a woman's health, the period of postpartum and taking care of it is considered crucial. During the period of postpartum, you will get to hear a ton of suggestions on what to do, how to be, how to take care of yourself and the baby, etc. But what is less informed and heard is the list of restrictions to follow after giving birth.

In conversation with Dr. Elsa, a Gynaecology Surgeon in Dubai under this article we will discuss the things that a newbie mom should avoid doing during her postpartum period.

  • Do not diet

After the delivery, the thought that your postpartum body feels like a nightmare and you want to get rid of it as soon as possible is common. In order to achieve that, women start dieting and keep on neglecting the essential nutrients they need. It is advised to give yourself some time and first adjust to the new mom's life, properly heal yourself, and then start dieting.

  • Do not start a strenuous exercise

As similar to not following a diet it is advised not to start a strenuous exercise post your delivery. Take all the rest you need, let your body heal, and once everything is considered OK, you can tune into postpartum cure exercise and find out the best workout that does not cause you further damage.

  • Do not drink excess alcohol

Consumption of excess alcohol, smoke, and drugs is never a good choice to take because it leads to different risk factors for the newborn like sudden infant death syndrome, risk of early deaths, etc. If you or your partner smokes or drinks it is advised to cut it down for a while in order to save the health of your child.

  • Do not put anything in the vagina

Post-delivery, depending on the birth experience you had, it may sound surprising that your vagina changes a lot. The factor is linked to the experience, amount of bleeding, etc you had while the delivery. No matter how you feel it is advised to not insert anything in the vagina till your postpartum period is over, avoid having sex, and use tampons as they can let go bacteria in.

  • Do not ignore the pain

The pain after delivery tends to vary from person to person and is based on the experience of the delivery. One of the most common types of pain that follows you after the delivery and are considered to be Ok are cramping, pain in the vagina, pain in stitches, discomfort in the neck, back, etc. whereas if you feel another pain like severe headache, pain while urinating, heavy bleeding, swelling in legs, etc it is advised to visit the doctor and take proper care.
