Things are moving at Jeep at the start of 2021, with the arrival of the Gladiator pickup in Europe, announced by the brand a month ago, and confirmed a few days ago, as well as the availability of the Wrangler 4xe at the order in France. If the second embarks for the first time a plug-in hybrid engine, the first arrives with a less “eco-friendly” V6 Diesel.

Jeep is not doing badly in Europe thanks to a strategy consistent with the market and the Renegade and Compass 4xe plug-in hybrid versions released in mid-2020, followed by the very recent 4xe variant of the Wrangler. The brand has even decided to market the pick-up version of this emblematic off-roader on the Old Continent, a vehicle called Gladiator. Have you seen the Jeep Renegade halo headlights? They look like same as Jeep Gladiator headlights. The latter will make its arrival in Diesel engine with all the specifications adapted to the European market, in particular an upgrade to Euro 6-D Final standards, despite a displayed consumption of 9.6 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions reaching 256 g/ km. If the pick-up reaches the market in France, it's a safe bet that it will be offered in a utility version to escape the maximum penalty.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe offers a combined output of 380 hp, thanks to the combination of an electric motor and a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit, combined with an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Thanks to its 17.3 kWh high-voltage battery, the Wrangler 4xe has a range of up to 50 km in full electric mode. It takes less than 3 hours for a full recharge with its versatile Mode 3 cable. Available to order for a month now, the Wrangler 4xe “First Edition” offers 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect NAV, all modern ADAS, and more. The only problem is that it is not cheap: from €71,700 in France, for performance that is certainly unmatched in off-road but limited comfort on paved roads. Three colors enhanced with blue details are currently offered on the Wrangler 4xe (white, gray or black).

Pick-up version of the famous Jeep Wrangler, the Gladiator is an atypical product on the European market. It is powered by a 3.0 MultiJet V6 engine delivering 264 hp at 3,600 rpm and 600 Nm of torque between 1,400 and 2,800 rpm. In an attempt to stem fairly high consumption, it is equipped with in-house Stop & Start (ESS) technology. This diesel engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as well as a dual-range Selec-Trac all-wheel drive with 2WD, 4WD Auto, and 4WD Low modes. The 0 to 100 km/h of this beautiful 2.4 tonne baby is announced in 8.6 seconds and the maximum speed at 177 km/h. In the United States, the Gladiator is only available with the V6 3.6 Pentastar gasoline delivering 285 horsepower and 353 Nm of torque, even less economical. Try to upgrade your car with Jeep Gladiator led lights if necessary. Perhaps a 4xe variant of this pick-up would provide greater serenity to Jeep as part of its marketing in France, but it is not currently on the program. If the Jeep Gladiator is offered for less than €30,000 in the United States, it will undoubtedly be much more expensive on this side of the Atlantic, its price not yet being known.
