In a recent afternoon at Maracaibo, Venezuela, Alexander Marinez who is short-cropped with black hair, and three-to-four-day stubble, sat at his computer watching herbiboars move through the mushrooms forests on Fossil Island. He put his finger on his glowing mouse, the latest addition to his traditional gaming setup.

The image displayed on his screen followed the path of a hedgehog-like creature with triangular tusks and herbaceous growths growing out of its back. Outside Marinez's one-story house, the sun shone down upon his dirt driveway. His house is situated about six miles away from the strait connecting both the Caribbean Sea with Lake Maracaibo which is among the world's richest oil sources. But beyond that it is an extremely well-crafted idle game. Additionally, its preference for players to determine their own course through the game is what makes it stand out from the glut of games that force players to increase a number continuously."

The discussions continued to progress into Melvor Idle was soon signed to Jagex Partners, the RuneScape company's publishing department. Jagex provided Malcolm development advice and helped with the complete redesign of the brand and also assisted with community management and localisation, which translates the game that was created by one person and made that is available in 13 languages (so to date).

The launch was earlier in the month but even its Early Access version proved this formula resonated with RPG players, having been downloaded over 600,000 times across Steam and both major mobile app stores. This went above and beyond the initial goals of Malcolm when he first began. Naturally, he had hopes that his game would be successful but it wasn't a 'endgame goal in mind.

Being capable of working alongside Jagex personally on this is the ultimate dream come true," he says. "I didn't think I'd ever get the backing of the same studio which inspired me in the beginning.

Making the jump from hobby to fan project was obviously terrifying and yet, when I look back at my current situation, and the help I've received in establishing Games by Malcs as an new studio, it's certainly been for the best."

Despite the close connection to Melvor Idle and buy osrs gold safe, and the direct involvement of Jagex, the publisher opted to maintain the game as an original IP and not making it the official RuneScape spin-off. It was a recognition of the fact Malcolm had succeeded in a place that Jagex itself had failed.
