An excerpt from the coming the lore anthology Folk and Fairy Tales of Azeroth for Blizzard's World of Warcraft has finally revealed that Chromie the NPC is transgender, and uses her/his pronouns. Scheduled to release later this month on May 25th, the publication titled wow tbc classic gold: Folk and Fairy Tales of Azeroth features short stories which extend the lore of the realm of the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game.

The first time Chromie appeared in the game was in 2004. Chromie is a time-travelling bronze dragon who takes the form of a female gnome at her Visage Day ceremony to interact with mortals within the game. When she is a bronze dragon, Chromie's name would be Chronormu and is considered an male name because it uses"ormu," which is a male "ormu" suffix, while male bronze dragon names generally include the "ormi" suffix. An recurring character in the game, Chromie appears throughout WoW's numerous expansions providing quests for players. It is also an option to play as a character in Blizzard's now abandoned MOBA, Heroes of The Storm.

As reported by PCGamesN the fans who received the first copies of Blizzard's Folk and Fairy Tales of Azeroth tales of legends have found her preferred pronouns are clearly revealed in the story titled "Visage Day". The story follows Chromie opts to be the shape of a female gnome during the Visage Day ceremony, a ritual that marks the beginning of a new age in which bronze dragons choose their mortal form. After choosing her mortal guise, Chromie is asked why she decided to be female, to which she responds "It is what I want to be."

The fans quickly made use of Twitter to reach out to WoW's narrative lead, and author of the tale, Steve Danuser for further clarification regarding Chromie's gender identity. Because Chromie has both a mortal and dragon form, people were eager to learn whether she was considered gender fluid, male in the form of bronze dragon or woman in her human form.

Luckily, Danuser cleared it up for the fans, saying that pronoun use for Chromie's tale was deliberate, and that "Prior to Visage day ceremony, Chronormu can be identified by the name of he/she. In the following days, she/he appears can be seen in dragon and mortal forms." Although the forthcoming book finally confirms that Chromie can be transgender she's not the first in the game, with Pelagos an NPC who was prominent from the World of Warcraft Classic TBC expansion was revealed to be transgender when the expansion was released in the year 2020.

The World of Warcraft community has frequently speculated about Chromie's gender, this was never confirmed by Blizzard until now with cheap TBC Classic Gold, which should be a welcomed revelation as fans can finally put their speculations and misinformation to the wind. Although it has taken Blizzard over 17 years prove that Chromie is truly transgender her story is another welcomed step toward more diversity and LGBTQand representation in video games.
