The Browns, Panthers and Saints aren't the only three teams in on the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes. The Falcons reportedly are involved as well.According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, the Falcons have "emerged as a sleeper" in the Watson sweepstakes. The Falcons have emerged as a sleeper team to acquire Texans Matt Niskanen Jersey quarterback Deshaun Watson, league sources tell and me. The Falcons join the Panthers, Saints and Browns as teams that have met with, or are interested in, trading for Watson. More to come on ESPN. Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) Schefter would go on to call Atlanta a landing spot, but the Falcons apparently are still in the mix for Watson.MORE: Atlanta's interest in Watson stems from an existing relationship between the quarterback and owner Arthur Blank, per Schefter. Watson, who grew up in Gainesville, Georgia, not far from the Falcons' practice facility, worked as a ball boy for the team during his youth and developed a relationship with Blank's family.Falcons owner Arthur Blank is fond of Deshaun Watson from the days when the former Gainesville (Ga) High quarterback worked multiple years as a Falcons ball boy and developed a relationship with Blank's family. Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) That said, the Falcons' interest in Watson is somewhat of a surprise given that they have Matt Ryan under contract. Ryan has been Atlanta's starter every year since the team selected him with the No. 3 overall pick Tom Wilson Jersey in the 2008 NFL Draft. The team planned to restructure his contract and lower his cap hit to $36.7 million from $48.7 million, but that has not been completed yet.LIVE: Atlanta's front office and coaching staff have given Ryan votes of confidence over the last couple of months. However, coach Arthur Smith acknowledged that they may decide to trade the 36-year-old if they get a Godfather offer."We anticipate Matt being part of the team, but you don't ever back yourself into a corner," Smith said in early March, per. "If someone Evgeny Kuznetsov Jersey gives you an offer you can't refuse Matt knows how we feel about him. Matt has a lot of good football left in him."As such, the Falcons appear willing to move on from Ryan and could probably be convinced to do so if they believe Watson, 26, can be a long-term upgrade over him.Of course, doing so Mike Gartner Jersey wouldn't be easy. Ryan has a no-trade clause, so he can dictate where he lands in any potential move. It stands to reason that a team like the Colts may be interested in his services. Beyond that, it's unclear what other options he might have a suming that the Falcons aren't comfortable trading him to an intra-division rival like the Saints or Panthers.MORE: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also notes that moving on from Ryan would be "extremely complicated" because of his cap hit. Ryan is set to eat up either $36.7 million or $48.7 million of cap space Nathan Walker Jersey in 2022, pending his restructured deal, and comes with a dead-cap hit of $55.5 million. From Free Agency Frenzy: QB Deshaun Watson meets with the today, the are slated for tomorrow, and he met with the and yesterday. Potentially a decision coming Wednesday. Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) As Rapoport mentions, that doesn't mean the Falconscan'torwon'tdo it. More and more teams have taken large dead-cap hits in trades over the last couple of seasons, the most notable of which came via the Jared Goff and Carson Wentz trades. So, if Watson is the Falcons' guy, they can make a deal work. It just means that they'll have to pull off some salary cap gymnastics to complete the trade.
