Are you feeling that? That's the humidity of summer going away, the temperature going down, and a closet change coming up. If you're like me, you're ready for weather with light breeze and clothes that are even lighter. That's where fall maxi dresses come in. They add drama, flair, ease, and extra oomph to dressing for cooler weather. In the fall, maxi dresses are the perfect way to transition from one season to the next. It doesn't get any easier than that to get dressed up.

But if the end of summer doesn't make you feel too hot, I have some good news! Say "heck no" to putting away your favourite summer maxi dresses after Labour Day to keep the dog days going: Instead, make them look great for cooler weather (hello, cosy jackets and must-have boots).

Here are floor-length hems in pretty colours, unique prints, and a wide range of materials (sweater knits, satin, cotton, oh my!). These fall maxi dresses will knock you off your feet, whether you're going to the office, out to brunch, or to a party.

One of my favourite ways to feel girly in the summer heat is to float down the street in a flowy maxi dress. But if you layer it right, this summer staple can look great well into fall.

First, think of your maxi dress as a long skirt and look for layers you would normally wear with a skirt or over a skirt and top. The second way to stay warm when the weather gets cold is to wear boots, tights, or leggings.

Even though a summer maxi dress is made of a light material, you can layer it both on top and underneath to make it magically versatile all the way through pumpkin-latte season. Here are three ways to wear it, based on what some great style bloggers have done.

Wearing a Vest

I could also see this dress with a fur vest or a cargo jacket and boots. By leaving the top layer open but keeping the belt in place, the small paisley print makes you look slimmer. Plus, the belt helps define your waist even when you're wearing a lot of bulky tops.

Black and white is another great way to make summer clothes feel like they can be worn all year. The colour scheme is always stylish and on-trend. Also, black accessories are a great way to feel grounded in the winter.

By Using An Oxford

Goddiva shows the best way to wear an oxford shirt with a maxi dress, whether you choose chambray, gingham, or another button-down from your guy's closet. Start by tucking the back of the shirt into itself so that the back doesn't bunch up. Then tie it at your natural waist in front. Too high and you might end up with an unflattering empire waist; too low and you'll hide your curves.

The necklace's accent is another great touch. Even when we're wearing something more buttoned up, it gives us that flattering "V" shape that comes from cleavage.

Having a Sweater

As the weather gets colder, a sweater, like the one worn by Lidia of Gvozdishe, is the perfect way to keep this girly shape warm. The key is to choose a sweater with a slim cut, even if it has a chunkier knit like this one, so that the shape doesn't make you look bigger. Putting a belt around your waist is the best way to show off your shape.

When she wears a chunky sweater like this, her dark brown belt with two buckles is the perfect match. A belt that was too thin could have been lost, and a belt that was too wide could have looked too harsh. This medium width is so perfect that I've put it on my list of things I want to buy.
