The Premier League is back and with it comes a lot of speculation and uncertainty. With the likes of Newcastle, Wolves, Everton and West Ham still looking for a place in the top four, it's not surprising that people are asking where they left things. Whether or not the competition will be a success remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure - it's going to be a fun ride!

Everton

Everton have been in the Premier League continuously since 1954, making them one of the most enduring clubs in the history of the competition. However, recent results have been mixed, and the club are battling for European qualification.

While Everton's relegation chances are slim, they are just two points behind the bottom three. They also have three games in August, and three in September that will be tough if they want to avoid the relegation zone. Here's how they can survive and get the most out of the season.

Wolves

Wolves are a newly promoted team to the Premier League, following a seven-year absence. They finished seventh in the division in the previous season. They have a solid squad, with a strong Portuguese influence. This should ensure they make an impact in the EPL.

A new owner, Fosun International, has taken the club. This is not the first time that a foreign owner has purchased an English football club. The Chinese investment group bought West Ham United FC's parent company, W.W. (1990) Ltd, in 2016.

The relationship between Mendes and Wolves goes beyond just being an agent for the players. It also includes helping to identify the club as a potential purchase.

West Ham

West Ham are set to return to the Premier League on Boxing Day for the first time in over a month. It's a return to competitive action for the club, which hasn't won a league game since September 18.

But West Ham are one point above the relegation zone and have been struggling in the Premier League this season. So David Moyes' side will be aiming to secure a top-seven finish. They'll then travel to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.

The Hammers have lost three of their last five games in the Premier League. They've also struggled defensively. So, they need to improve.

Newcastle

Newcastle are currently in third place and battling for a top four spot. They have a joint best points record in the Premier League. However, they are seven points behind the leaders.

The defending champions Manchester City are a close second. And, with the exception of Liverpool, all other clubs have enjoyed a positive start to the season.

There are also some worrying signs for teams outside London. Wolves and Southampton are both in relegation territory. And, while Everton have a decent record, they're also struggling to score goals.

Fulham

In the future, it seems Fulham will finally return to the Premier League after a relegation scare. The club has spent more than PS100m signing 15 new players this summer, some of whom have Premier League experience. The club also announced that Layvin Kurzawa joined on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

After a disastrous start to the season, Fulham have picked up two wins and a draw in their first five matches. In the process, they have narrowed the gap between themselves and Bournemouth to nine points.

West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion return to the Premier League tonight after finishing last season's championship in 22nd place. They have won one league game and drawn eight in their 13 games so far this season. They are tied with Everton in fifth place after 11 games.

After failing to make the automatic promotion spots, West Brom have a good chance of reaching the playoffs. Their record in the top half of the table will be a good measure of their progress.

Steve Bruce has taken over the management team from Valerien Ismael, who left after a poor start to the season. He has had over a thousand games to his credit, and will hope to get West Bromwich Albion back to the Premier League.

Sheffield United

After a 12-year absence, Sheffield United are back in the Premier League. Chris Wilder's side began the season in terrible form, with five defeats in the first 19 games. However, they improved after Matchday 18. In the final six matches, they have won four games, drawing once. The players are announcing their plans for a parade through the city after the Stoke game on Sunday.

The last time the team was in the top flight, they were relegated in 2006. They returned in 2006-07 but stayed in the fourth tier for two seasons. They suffered an awful League One campaign in 2015-16, finishing 11th in the standings.
