Bullet-resistant body armor approved for county sheriff’s department personnel

St. Charles County Sheriff Scott Lewis had sent a memo to County Council chair Nancy Schneider (District 6), explaining that the Sheriff's Office provides uniformed personnel (deputy sheriffs and court security marshals) with bullet-resistant body armor. He had said the department anticipates purchasing 19 vests during fiscal year 2023 for new hires and/or replacement of expired vests, totaling $15,675.To get more news about hard armor panels, you can visit bulletproofboxs.com official website.

Lewis further explained that the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Program is a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) initiative designed to provide critical resources to state, local and tribal jurisdictions for the sole purpose of purchasing bullet-resistant body armor for law enforcement officers.

Program participants are reimbursed up to 50% of the cost of each unit of eligible body armor purchased for law enforcement officers. The St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department was awarded $3,191.40 from the BPV grant program.

Lewis had requested that the council accept this grant and authorize the appropriate personnel to submit reimbursement requests as required by the grant conditions.

At the county council meeting on Nov. 28, Bill No. 5117 was approved by a vote of 7-0. The bill, sponsored by Schneider, authorizes acceptance of the grant and authorizes the Sheriff’s Department to comply with the conditions of the grant agreement.
