Women:

You are considered to be able to get pregnant unless you have had a total hysterectomy, in which case your uterus and ovaries have been removed, or you have been in menopause for at least a year straight.

You must formally commit to using two specified birth control methods for the duration of the 30-day period starting 30 days before you begin taking isotretinoin and ending 30 days after your last dose.

 It is necessary to utilise both a primary and secondary method of birth control.

The main methods of birth control are:

A vasectomy for the male spouse; an IUD; estrogen-containing birth control tablets (not mini-pills); hormonal birth control patches, implants, injections, or vaginal rings are more options.

Additional birth control methods include:

spermicide-containing vaginal sponges, spermicide-containing diaphragms, spermicide-containing cervical caps, and spermicide-containing male latex condoms.
If you engage in unprotected sex, stop taking birth control, or stop using isotretinoin, stop using it immediately and call your doctor.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

depression or mental illness;
asthma;
liver disease;
diabetes;
heart disease or high cholesterol;
osteoporosis or low bone mineral density;
an eating disorder such as anorexia;
a food or drug allergy; or
an intestinal disorder such as inflammatory bowel disease or ulcerative colitis.
