We begin our story by having a crashed wedding. When I met my fiancé Brian, I had been recently accepted into pilot practicing in the Air Force. I was on a family vacation and he was my cousin’s co-worker. On a casual meet-up, we visited a fancy hotel to obtain drinks. Upon discovery of the hotel wedding, I convinced this man I barely knew to become listed on the fun (cue the movie “Wedding Crashers”). We spent the evening dancing, making new friends, and personally wishing the pair our best.

That night Brian distributed to me his curiosity about forming a relationship. My response went something similar to this, “I’m within the military. I don’t know where I’ll be within the next couple of months or years. If you want to pursue me, your plans might be up in the air.” Brian was prepared to pursue me. We continued up to now and flash forward 2 yrs later (towards the day), Brian proposed in the very hotel we crashed the marriage. We will certainly be getting married within the same ballroom on our first date.

When we got engaged we knew that planning for a wedding could be difficult. Just a couple of months after we were engaged, I got stationed abroad for a year-long assignment. We knew the military will make our engagement tough. However, nobody could have predicted how COVID-19 would add difficulty. With DOD restrictions I am unable to leave my neighborhood. In addition, Brian is not able to come to my base. I had originally planned to visit home on May 22nd (Memorial Day weekend) to ensure that I could complete some wedding preparation. However, because of military restrictions, this can not be possible. Though I would like to be an engaged couple planning my wedding quarantined with my family member, I realize that being together at this time is not possible. I am proud of everyone and realize that my current situation is going to be best for our family in the future. I realize that my wedding ceremony planning must come secondary to my training. However, I am certain that even though restrictions we'll persevere. As you all so eloquently stated, "Love is Not Cancelled"!
