The new 2023 Ford Mustang has just been officially presented with a new exterior design, the inevitable V8 engine and an interior with more technology.

The rumored new 2023 Ford Mustang, known by the code S650, has just been officially unveiled at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show. Sporting an evolutionary design, this new generation features the long-awaited V8 engine under the hood and offers an interior more technological. However, it seems that electrification is not yet going to reach the famous pony car.

The new generation of the Ford Mustang, probably the last to be built following the guidelines established by the original model in 1964, sports a style that is very familiar to us, since it could be considered an evolution of its predecessor launched on the market 7 years ago. .

In the design section, the new 2023 Mustang has LED automotive custom lighting system and wider rear wheel arches. It's offered with fastback and convertible bodywork, just like past generations, though this time around the fastback gets a longer roofline that Ford says was created to make it easier to get in and out of the car with the racing helmet.

Other novelties on an aesthetic level can be found at the rear, with a wider trunk loading mouth and the elimination of the black section between the rear lights, which have also been redesigned. The front end is new, too, with slimmer, sharper custom headlights for cars, a more aggressive bumper, and a grille inspired by that of the 1964 Mustang.

For the first time it will be easier to tell the two versions of the Ford Mustang apart, as the V8-powered GT variant sports a different front end and larger air intakes, as well as new hood vents and a restyled front splitter. . It remains to be seen how Shelby applies his magic to create the most radical versions of the model.

What we do know is that both versions will be offered with the Bronze Design package, which includes Sinister Bronze-finished wheels and badging of the same colour. In addition, there will be different wheel designs of 17, 19 and 20 inches, three different colors for the Brembo brake calipers and 11 exterior paints complemented by various stripe designs.

On the other hand, the optional Performance Pack is included with a Torsen limited-slip differential, 390mm front and 355mm rear Brembo brakes, and wheels with wider tires. These upgrades can be complemented by MagneRide suspension, Recaro seats and an exhaust system with active valves.

The GT version with the Performance Package includes brake-cooling ducts, an oil cooler, a pothole mitigation system, and an electric parking brake with a traditional lever design that Ford says is "designed for novice drivers to use." learn and improve their drifting skills” and “provide expert drivers with a system ready to race”.

Inside the Ford Mustang 2023 we also find important news. The most obvious is the one that affects the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. Ford has adopted a double screen of 12.4 inches for the digital cockpit and 13.2 inches for the SYNC 4 multimedia system with Amazon Alexa, in the style of BMW or Mercedes-Benz.

The perceived quality has improved considerably and the graphics on the screens are clearer thanks to the Unreal Engine 3D technology that we find in the world of video games. Climate control has been integrated into the touchscreen, there's a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a wireless charging point, USB ports, and cloth or leather seats.

On a mechanical level there are not too many surprises. The 2023 Ford Mustang has two different engines. On the one hand, the 2.3 EcoBoost turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and, on the other, the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 Coyote. The latter has an "innovative dual air intake box and dual throttle body" that improves airflow and power.

At the moment, Ford has not revealed the power and torque figures, nor the acceleration records from 0 to 100 km/h or the maximum speed of any of its mechanics. What we do know is that the engines will be available with a 10-speed automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox. Of course, the Mustang is still rear-wheel drive.

Needless to say, Ford and Shelby will redevelop the most performance versions of the new Mustang. We would have to wait for the firm of the cobra to release GT350 and GT500 versions in the future, although it is likely that there will still be a few years to see it live.

And as for the price of the 2023 Ford Mustang, they are a mystery at the moment. It is to be expected that it will be somewhat more expensive than the current model, although it will continue to maintain its excellent price-performance ratio. It will go on sale in the United States after the summer of next year, so it may land in European dealers by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024.

Although at first there was talk of the possibility of Ford launching a 100% electric version of the Mustang in this new generation, this option has faded over time, as have the possibilities that the new pony car would have electrified mechanics.

For now, if you want an electric Ford Mustang, you will have to opt for the Mustang Mach-E, which is not a sports car (it is an SUV), but which is a real sales success.
