Longtime Oklahoma football a sistant coach Cale Gundy announced on Sunday he would be resigning from the program.In a me sage on Twitter, Gundy explained during a film se sion, he read aloud a word "I should never under any circumstances have uttered." He said he was reading off the iPad of one of his Anthony Davis Jersey players, who he said was distracted."In the moment, I did not even realize what I was reading and, as soon as I did, I was horrified," Gundy said. "I want to be very clear: the words I read aloud from that screen were not my words. What I was was not malicious; it wasn't even intentional. Still, I am mature enough to know that the word I said was shameful and hurtful, no matter my intentions."The unfortunate reality is that someone in my position can cause harm without ever meaning to do so. In that circumstance, a man of character accepts accountability. I take responsibility for my mistake. I apologize."MORE:In a Monday statement from coach Brent Venables, the first-year Oklahoma head coach said Gundy read aloud the word "not once but multiple times" and said it did not "reflect the attitude and values" of the program."This is not acceptable. But I leave confident that the team will continue to prospect and I leave with tremendous love for the University of Oklahoma and its athletics department."Gundy resigns as the longest-tenured coach in the Big 12, having been with the Sooners as a coach since 1999. He also played quarterback for Oklahoma from 1990 to 1993.During his career on the Oklahoma sidelines, Gundy won a national championship in 2000 and 14 Big 12 titles. He was the team's running backs coach for 16 years, during which time he coached future NFL running backs Adrian Peterson, DeMarco Murray and Samaje Perine, among others.
