Toyota Power Window Switch Recall Affects 2 Million Cars

Toyota is recalling about 2 million vehicles in the U.S. over power window master switches that may overheat and cause a fire. Recalled Toyota vehicles include certain versions of the Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Matrix, RAV4, Sequoia, Tundra, and Yaris as well as the Scion xB and xD.Get more news about window switch manufacturers, you can vist our website!

The Problem: The power window master switch on certain Toyota vehicles may have been manufactured with an insufficient amount of lubricant grease. If that's the case, the switch may develop a short circuit, possibly causing the switch assembly to overheat and melt. The melting switch can lead to smoke, and potentially, a fire.

Toyota received one notification of a hand burn injury related to the window switch problem, but no crashes have been reported. The latest recall adds new vehicles to a previous campaign that called back certain 2007-2009 model cars for a similar problem.

The Fix: Toyota dealers will inspect the switches in these cars and apply heat-resistant grease, a process that should take about 45 minutes, Toyota says. If the switch isn't operating normally, Toyota will replace the internal circuit board.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Toyota says approximately 2 million vehicles in the U.S. are affected by the recall, including the 2007 and 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid; 2009-2011 Corolla; 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid; 2009-2011 Matrix; 2006-2011 RAV4; 2009-2011 Sequoia; 2009-2011 Tundra; 2006-2010 Yaris; 2009-2011 Scion xB; and 2009-2010 Scion xD. All in all, Toyota is recalling around 6.5 million vehicles worldwide for the defect.
