Introducing Grand Seiko Replica Watches's First Mechanical Chronograph The Tentagraph
This high-frequency watch is the latest addition to the Evolution 9 series.
What's in the name? That's all for Grand Seiko's first mechanical chronograph. The Tentegraph is a new watch with a movement frequency of 10 beats per second and a power reserve of three days, an automatic chronograph. My work here is basically done.
Abandoning our usual formula of working from the outside in, let's start with the movement, since it's there in the name/acrace. The Tentagraph Caliber 9SC5 uses the high-vibration Caliber 9SA5 as a base. Inside the movement is an energy-saving dual-pulse escapement and two barrels that allow the watch to run for three days even when using the chronograph function, which GS claims makes it the longest power reserve in the industry today (admittedly this is "based on" its research). The new discount replica watch underwent more rigorous testing for a total of 20 days to ensure it met the brand's requisite accuracy standards of +5 to -3 seconds per day. A vertical clutch and column wheel help the watch maintain precision and control the chronograph functions.
You can see the movement through the exhibition caseback, which is part of the high-strength, zaratsu-polished titanium case (the bracelet is made of the same lightweight, scratch-resistant material). But it’s not all titanium; the bezel is ceramic, the dial is blue, and you know it has a story. This is GS' "Mount Iwate Pattern", named after the mountain seen from Studio Shizukuishi, and the dark blue is inspired by the night sky above the mountain. The hands and fluted hour-markers are luminescent for legibility, and the subdials at 3, 9 and 12 are recessed to add more depth to the dial.
The Tentagraph is new for Grand Seiko high quality cheap watches, but without straying too far from what it does best. A new form of high-precision timekeeping, in a gorgeous package. It does look like a more refined entry in the Evolution 9 lineup, taking last year's sportier styling and making it more flashy.
Obviously, the dial is gorgeous, and the finish on the case is fantastic. My mind is always a little glitchy when I see a big watch but feel lighter due to titanium, in a good way. That said, it's a big watch, and I'm curious to see how the "low center of gravity" affects or doesn't affect wrist presence.
It’s exciting to see Grand Seiko constantly reminding us that not only is it a pretty face with gorgeous and thoughtful dials, but it’s also a brand that values accuracy and innovation.
