It is certainly no secret that our soil is being degraded by human activity. Fewer nutrients are available for farmers to grow crops, and the crops themselves have less nutritional value than they once did. It also has consequences for wildlife, as well as the people who depend on those wild animals for their food and livelihoods.
The Soil Health Card Scheme is a new programme coming from the UK Government which aims to tackle these problems through accurate knowledge of soil structure and quality. The scheme will provide an annual-rolling card which will map out how much your soils contain of different minerals, plant growth-promoting fungi, and so forth.
